Beer lovers are invited to the 2018 Glassboro Craft Beer Festival on Saturday, Sept. 29 in the Glassboro Town Square from noon to 5 p.m.
An anticipated 3,000 attendees will have the opportunity to sample hundreds of beers from more than 50 breweries. This year's focus is on beer crafted by local and tri-state area breweries in small batches. There also will be more than a dozen food trucks.
"We have enjoyed great response from our past beer festivals and we expect 2018 to be better than ever" said Councilman Andrew Halter. "Glassboro is home to the newly opened, award winning, Bonesaw Brewing Co. and will open two new breweries within the next year. We have discovered that the art of brewing beer is an economic driver for cities that is not only enjoyed by residents but also brings visitors from around the region."Read More
Glassboro’s Mayor and Council Members held a dedication ceremony for the unveiling of a sculpture honoring former Glassboro Mayor Alvin Shpeen (1999-2002), created and donated by Demountable Concepts, Inc. featuring a steel silhouette of the late mayor who was instrumental in bringing Glassboro and Rowan University together to revitalize the town.
“Former Glassboro Mayor, Alvin Shpeen’s dedication and vision created the groundwork for our revitalization and what has become the new standard in suburban living and a model for cities nationwide,” said Glassboro Councilman John E. Wallace III. “That is why this statue belongs in this location, directly across from his previous office -- to remind us, no matter how much we have to overcome, just what it is that leadership requires; just what it is that citizenship requires. Alvin Shpeen would have turned 87 years old this July. We do well by placing a statue of him here. But we can do no greater honor to his memory than to carry forward the power of his vision and a dedication to our residents.”
Rustin Cassway, President of Demountable Concepts states, “Alvin was a positive force in the town’s development and played a key role in our decision to locate our facility in Glassboro. We saw how nicely the town square has come together and decided it would be a perfect place to honor Alvin with a sculpture. The town agreed, and we worked together to make it happen."Read More
Glassboro Town Square has received a 2018 Honor Award for Landscape Architectural Design from the New Jersey chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (NJASLA). Glassboro Town Square is a new Borough park, designed by Clarke Caton Hintz, which has quickly become the hub of Glassboro’s Arts and Entertainment District within the existing fabric of the downtown.
The 1.75-acre park contains a variety of unique and inviting public spaces, including an art garden, performance plazas, a rolling greensward, groves of trees, a veterans’ memorial garden and a communal fire bowl. Underpinning these spaces are systems and structures designed to recapture stormwater and endure the ravages of public use for generations. The Town Square has become the framework for events, festivals, and rituals, creating a vibrant and inviting energy within a new public commons.Read More
