Glassboro Renovates Decades Old Community Center

Former Site of the 1970’s All-Star Club House gets face lift to welcome new generation.

(GLASSBORO, NJ Tuesday, July 18, 2023) - Glassboro’s Mayor John Wallace, Council Members, and the Parks & Recreation Department hosted a formal grand re-opening ceremony Saturday, July 15th to commemorate the completion of renovations of the newly branded Martin Luther King (MLK) Community Center.

The facility, which is located at 223 Academy St., in Glassboro, NJ has an updated entrance, new central air conditioner, modernized restrooms, among other safety and code updates. Dating back to the early 1970’s the center was originally known as the All-Star Club House, a teenage boy’s social club.

“The Martin Luther King Center has always been a treasure in the Glassboro community. Since the early 1970’s this facility was a gathering place that positively impacted so many lives,” says Mayor John E. Wallace III.  “We’re extremely proud to be able to renovate this facility into a more useful, modern meeting space while honoring the legacy of the Glassboro All Stars and the Women’s Auxiliary All Star Club who were instrumental in the operation and caretaking of the facility.”

A few original member of the All Stars Women’s Auxiliary were in attendance, including Ms. Edith Randall Alston who spoke on how the All Stars Club House brought the community together over 50 years ago. The event included a ribbon cutting, facility tour, refreshments and giveaways.
