(GLASSBORO, NJ | Friday, September 22, 2023) – Athletes of all ages in the Borough of Glassboro, NJ are rushing to South Delsea Drive Park to try out the new Field Turf Multisport Turf field. The original grass field has been a central part of the athletics programs in the borough for years, and residents, sports organizations and government officials say they are excited about its new lease on life.

Dating back to March of 2021, Glassboro employees have worked diligently with New Jersey’s Department of Environmental Protection and the Garden State Preservation Trust’s Green Acres Program to secure a grant to fund 80% of the multisport turf field that will serve the Glassboro Midget Football program, traveling soccer and youth soccer programs.

“This turf field is a testament to how the Borough of Glassboro continues to improve upon an already beautiful community.” said Mayor John E. Wallace III, “The new playing surface is more durable, more easily maintained, and more cost effective.  And it now allows our Glassboro Park & Recreation Department to host football, soccer and field hockey games year round.”

The field will provide an optimal playing experience, in all weather conditions, for athletes and demonstrates Glassboro’s commitment to providing athletes with a more durable, consistent, and safe playing surface they need to perform at their best. Since most professional teams play on full field turf surfaces, this will also help to recruit additional soccer tournaments and form a flag football program and other activities for the Glassboro community.

This project could not have been completed without the support of Glassboro residents, New Jersey’s Green Acres program, Sickels and Associates, Field Turf, LandTek, and countless hours from several departments within the Borough of Glassboro.

The community is invited to celebrate the official ribbon cutting of Glassboro’s Field Turf Multisport Turf field on Saturday, September 24th at 10am. South Delsea Drive Park is located at 152 South Delsea Drive, Glassboro, NJ 08028.
