Glassboro’s Heroes To Be Honored With Military Flyover On Memorial Day
GLASSBORO, NEW JERSEY --- The Glassboro Memorial Day parade committee is happy to announce they have requested and have received pending approval for an Air Force fighter jet flyover on Memorial Day, Monday May 26th. The F16 jets will be flown by the New Jersey Air National Guard 177th Fighter Wing in Atlantic City and will soar over the Glassboro war memorial located in the new town square at the corner of High and Main and continue over the parade route as it approaches downtown.
The Glassboro Memorial Day parade is an over 100-year tradition and a patriotic event that honors those who have fallen in battle. It includes award-winning string bands, the popular children’s bike brigade, and various military veteran groups. The parade kicks off at 10:00 am and begins at the corner of Lehigh and University, making its way downtown on Whitney and High streets, ending at Academy. The solemn ceremony will take place following the parade in the town square on the corner of Main and High streets.
“The 177th Fighter Wing is again honored to be able to provide a military flyover for the Glassboro Memorial Day Parade and several other NJ Memorial Day events,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Benjamin W. Robbins, 177th Fighter Wing commander. “I have had the privilege of flying in the Glassboro event in recent years and from the air I could see the pride, the patriotism, and excitement of your community. On this Memorial Day, we remain connected by our shared reverence for the sacrifices of those who have gone before us. Today is significant, because it marks the day we honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.”
Glassboro’s fallen have been honored by the NJ Air National Guard’s 177th Fighter Wing with flyovers in previous years. Our keynote speaker this year, Colonel Ben “TOTO” Robbins, has led those formations in years past and is a decorated combat aviator. The mission of the wing he leads is to prepare professional warfighters to deliver lethal airpower and unrivaled support for the state and nation, with the vision of ensuring “Mission Ready Airmen, Anytime, Anywhere”.
