Over 100 Years of Tradition, Legacy, and Patriotism: The Annual Glassboro Memorial Day Returns May 25th

Glassboro Fallen Heroes Honored with a Parade Procession, Military Flyover, and Solemn Ceremony beginning at 10 a.m.

Glassboro, NJ—The Annual Glassboro Memorial Day Parade has stood as a poignant tribute to community veterans for well over a century. Experience award-winning string bands, a children’s bike brigade, and a military flyover.

The parade route will begin at the corner of Lehigh Road and University Boulevard, proceeding towards Downtown Glassboro on Whitney Avenue, turning onto High Street, and finally concluding at Academy Street. Community members are encouraged to line the streets to watch the parade pass and enjoy live performances.

Leading the procession will be Grand Marshal Carl Johnson, a lifelong Glassboro resident who attended Glassboro High School before leaving to serve in the United States Marine Corps. During his military career, he completed two tours in Vietnam and rose to the rank of Sergeant. “It is an incredible honor to recognize Carl Johnson as the Grand Marshall of the Memorial Day Parade,’’ said Councilman Tim “Dan” Brown. “His unwavering patriotism, courage, and dedication to service during his two tours of Vietnam remind us of the many sacrifices of our veterans to their country and families.”

The Glassboro Memorial Day Parade has also been approved for an Air Force fighter jet flyover at approximately 10:30 a.m. Spectators can watch the jets soar over Veterans’ Memorial Plaza in Glassboro Town Square and continue along the parade route through Downtown. The F-16 aircraft will be flown by the New Jersey Air National Guard’s 177th Fighter Wing, based in Atlantic City.

“We are honored to host the Glassboro Memorial Day Parade in collaboration with the Glassboro VFW, American Legion, Glassboro veterans, active-duty personnel, and members of our local community,” said Councilwoman Deanna Davis Garlic. “It is truly heartwarming to see so many organizations and residents come together to remember our fallen heroes, support our local veterans, and recognize our active-duty service members.”

At the conclusion of the parade, a solemn memorial ceremony will take place at the Veterans’ Memorial Plaza. Names of Glassboro Fallen Heroes will be read to the ringing of a bell. The award-winning Glassboro Select Choir and renowned soloist Michael Jones are scheduled to perform. The Keynote Speaker for the ceremony is Colonel Daniel Hilferty, Deputy Commander of the 621st Contingency Response Wing (CRW). The Veterans Memorial Plaza is located within Glassboro Town Square at 1 High Street W., Glassboro, NJ 08028, at the corner of Main Street and High Street.
